...the words of this song aren't sung – they're declaimed like a sermon, resembling a strange new translation of a psalm...
PSALM 150
Praise the Lord!
Praise God in his sanctuary;
Praise him in his mighty firmament!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
Praise him according to his exceeding greatness!
Praise him with trumpet sound;
Praise him with lute and harp!
Praise him with timbrel and dance;
Praise him with strings and pipe!
Praise him with sounding cymbals;
Praise him with loud clashing cymbals;
Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

A few years later, during my year of employment in Wirral Borough Council’s information office at Wallasey Town Hall, one of my colleagues from the Bebington office gave me a pile of old photographs, including these two oddities. Although the swimming pool is Byrne Avenue, this kind of thing never happened while I was working there.

Not sure what was occurring here, but it almost certainly contravened the health and safety guidelines.
